Cosmos adds BitGo to 17-partner banking network

Cosmos launched a 17-member Partner Network on Sept. 9, bringing BitGo, Galaxy Digital, OpenZeppelin and other infrastructure providers together to help financial institutions move tokenized deposits and digital asset services from trials into production.

    Summary

    • Cosmos launched its Partner Network with seventeen providers covering custody, compliance, security, and blockchain infrastructure.
    • BitGo joined alongside Galaxy, OpenZeppelin, Blockdaemon, Hypernative, Blockchain.com, and eleven other specialized service providers initially.
    • Cosmos will supply tokenization software while partners provide custody, verification, monitoring, and integrated implementation services.
    • The network targets tokenized deposits, round-the-clock settlement, programmable escrow, trade finance, and agentic commerce cases.
    • Cosmos said its technology supports more than 150 blockchains securing over $70 billion in assets.

Cosmos announced that the initial network includes Anseta, Balance, BCW Group, BitGo, Blockchain.com, Blockdaemon, Coinbax, DFNS, Galaxy Digital, Hypernative, InfStones, OpenZeppelin, Peersyst Technology, Silence Laboratories, Ubyx, Utila and Zeeve.

The companies cover different parts of institutional digital asset deployment. Their services include custody, identity verification, transaction monitoring, wallet infrastructure, blockchain nodes, staking, settlement, systems integration and smart contract security.

Cosmos will provide its Tokenization Suite and digital ledger technology. Participating companies will supply the specialized services that banks normally procure from several vendors. The arrangement is intended to reduce the coordination work required when connecting token issuance, custody, compliance and operational systems.

“Financial institutions understand the potential of tokenization, but it’s difficult to move from a pilot to a high-quality, live customer experience,” Cosmos co-CEO Maghnus Mareneck said. He claimed the network would reduce the complexity of sourcing providers separately, although Cosmos has not named participating banks or confirmed a production deployment under the new program.

BitGo adds custody and settlement capabilities

BitGo joins the network as its institutional custody and settlement provider. The company offers regulated custody, wallets, trading, financing, staking and stablecoin infrastructure. Its role could help banks separate asset safekeeping from the technology used to issue and transfer tokenized deposits.

BitGo said tokenization works only when banks can move beyond pilots without assembling an entire vendor stack themselves. However, neither BitGo nor Cosmos disclosed commercial terms, contracted institutions or specific assets that BitGo will custody through the partnership.

Galaxy Digital contributes trading, financing, asset management, staking and tokenization services. Blockchain.com provides institutional over-the-counter trading, market-making and custody functions. Balance offers custody, settlement, escrow and collateral management.

The initial list also includes several wallet specialists. DFNS provides wallet infrastructure for organizations issuing and governing assets on-chain. Utila offers multiparty computation wallets and policy controls, while Silence Laboratories focuses on on-premises custody and quantum-secure wallet technology.

Tokenized deposits are the primary banking use case

The Cosmos Partner Network is designed to support tokenized deposits, which represent commercial bank money on a programmable ledger. Unlike many stablecoins, a tokenized deposit generally remains a liability of the issuing bank rather than a claim against a separate non-bank issuer.

Cosmos says its Tokenization Suite can support 24/7 payment settlement and treasury management. It also lists programmable escrow, trade finance and agentic commerce as potential uses. These remain proposed capabilities rather than confirmed services being offered by named financial institutions.

Tokenized deposits could allow banks to retain deposits while providing some of the transfer and programmability features associated with stablecoins. The model still requires clear rules for redemption, settlement finality, customer identity checks and interoperability between institutions.

As crypto.news previously reported, Cosmos leadership expects interoperability to support wider stablecoin adoption. The Partner Network applies that argument to bank-issued money by combining ledger infrastructure with custody, compliance and external integration services.

Compliance and security partners address institutional risks

Coinbax will supply transaction-level screening, payment reversibility and programmable escrow controls. Ubyx focuses on connecting issuers with banks and fintech companies so tokenized money can be converted into fiat cash equivalents.

Hypernative contributes real-time monitoring, fraud prevention and automated incident response. OpenZeppelin provides smart contract design, auditing and continuous security services. Blockdaemon and InfStones add nodes, application programming interfaces, staking and other operational infrastructure.

Those functions are relevant because institutional tokenization introduces risks beyond asset issuance. A production system must control private keys, screen transactions, restrict unauthorized transfers and maintain service during network failures. Banks must also establish responsibility when multiple providers participate in the same transaction.

Security remains an active concern across blockchain infrastructure. In related coverage, a Cosmos EVM vulnerability affected six networks and enabled approximately $5.72 million in asset theft. That incident involved Cosmos EVM software rather than the newly announced Partner Network, but it shows why monitoring, audits and incident response matter for institutional deployments.

Cosmos must now convert partnerships into deployments

Cosmos claims its technology supports more than 150 blockchains and secures over $70 billion in assets. Those figures are company-provided ecosystem measurements and do not show how much institutional tokenized-deposit activity currently runs through its systems.

The company has not disclosed fees for joining the Partner Network, technical certification requirements or revenue-sharing arrangements. It also has not identified which partners are already integrated with the Tokenization Suite and which will require additional development.

Cosmos said members may receive introductions to financial institutions using public and private Cosmos networks. Partners can also participate in future tokenized-deposit projects, but inclusion does not guarantee a contract or commercial deployment.

The next measurable developments will be named bank customers, live tokenized deposits, completed custody integrations and transaction volumes. Cosmos also plans to add more partners, although it has not provided a timetable or target membership figure.

Until those deployments are announced, the Cosmos Partner Network should be viewed as a coordinated institutional service framework. Its commercial value will depend on whether banks use the combined provider stack to launch customer-facing tokenization products rather than continuing with limited pilot programs.
