What’s New in the Bitcoin News App: An AI That Works Offline

The Bitcoin News app has an AI tab, and it is not the kind of AI you are used to.

AI is a built-in assistant that answers your bitcoin and crypto questions in plain language. It was trained on Bitcoin.com News reporting, and it runs entirely on your phone. No internet needed once it has downloaded.

    What it does

Ask it anything about bitcoin or crypto in ordinary words. Some examples worth trying first:

    • What actually happens during a bitcoin halving?
    • Why do bitcoin transaction fees go up and down?
    • What is the difference between a hot wallet and a cold wallet?
    • Someone messaged me about a guaranteed 10 percent monthly return. What should I be thinking about?
    • Explain gas fees like I have never used crypto before.

It is built for people who want the concept explained, not the jargon repeated back at them.

    Where the answers come from

The model was trained on Bitcoin.com News’ own archive of reporting plus our YouTube library. So when it explains a topic, it is drawing on material written and recorded to introduce that topic to newcomers.

The main model is 1.7 billion parameters with a 32,000-token context window. On phones with less memory, the app picks a lighter model that fits the device.

    It runs on your phone

The model lives on your device. The first time you open the AI tab, the app downloads it (about 1.4 GB for the main model, so Wi-Fi is a good idea). After that, your questions are answered locally and are never sent to a server. That means:

    • It works offline. Airplane mode, no signal, bad hotel Wi-Fi. It still answers.
    • Your questions stay on your phone. There is no prompt log sitting on someone else’s infrastructure.
    • No round trip. The answer is generated on the device, not in a data center.

    Getting to it

    1. Update to the latest version of the Bitcoin News app from the App Store or Google Play.
    2. Tap the AI tab.
    3. First open downloads the model. That happens once.
    4. Ask away.

    Fair warning

This is an educational model. It explains concepts. It does not show you which articles an answer came from, it cannot look up today’s price or the latest headlines, and it is not a financial advisor. Nothing it says is investment advice. If an answer matters to a decision you are making with real money, verify it.

    FAQ

Does it cost anything? No. It is part of the app.

Does it need an account? No.

How much storage does it use? About 1.4 GB for the main model, downloaded once on first open of the AI tab. Smaller devices get a lighter model.

Does it really work with no connection? Yes, once the model has downloaded. Put the phone in airplane mode and try it.

Is it giving me financial advice? No, and it should not be used that way. It is an educational tool.

Can it look up today’s price or the latest news? No. It is a trained model running offline, not a live data feed. The rest of the app does that.

Which devices? iOS and Android, latest version of the Bitcoin News app.
